| Phoenix Singers are Edenbridge’s local amateur,
mixed choir, of about 40 people who live in and around Edenbridge. |
|
We come from all walks of life and have an age-range
spanning at least 40 years. Many of our members came along tentatively at
first, but found that they became absorbed by the friendly atmosphere, they
were delighted by the music and have become enthusiastic members. |
| We are guided by a dedicated Committee, and we are
most ably directed by Peter Ellefsen, our Musical Director and Conductor, who
makes each of our rehearsal evenings a combination of serious hard work and
great fun. |
| Over the years we have built up a repertoire of
religious, secular, traditional and modern music including Fauré’s
Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Kodaly’s Missa Brevis, Vivaldi’s
Gloria, Taverner’s The Lamb, Anthems by Purcell, Maunder’s Olivet to
Calvary, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Brahms’ German Requiem, Songs by
Elgar, Finzi, Parry, Handel, Campion, Byrd, Shephard, Hurd and Stanford and of
course a large selection of Christmas Carols. |
| We usually have two main concerts each year, and some
years we sing a Christmas concert. We are also available for invitations to
sing at concerts organised by others. |
| Phœnix Singers welcome new members. We rehearse
on Tuesday evenings at St. Andrew’s Convent, Stick Hill, with breaks for
Christmas, Easter and the Summer holiday period. |
